Thank you!

Despite the thunder, lightening, rain and hail (yes, hail!), we still managed to have a good turn out for our 16th Annual Ride and Hike for the Rouge. Brave cyclists made their way through the 25 or 50 km ride from the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre down to Lake Ontario and back, while the hikers braved the rain and took a Guided Interpretative Hike through the Valley.

Money raised at the event went to the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre’s educational, conservation and environmental restoration programs as well as operational costs. Our top pledge collector received two VIA1 Via Rail tickets from Toronto to Quebec City, while our first, second and third prize winners received Mountain Equipment Co-Op Gift Cards. Thank you to all of our participants and donors for their generous donations. And a big thanks to VIA Rail and Mountain Equipment Co-Op for the sponsoring our event and providing prizes to our participants.

This year we were lucky to have entertainment provided by Social Potion (songwriter Carmen Toth on vocals, guitar and keyboard and Aaron Jones on drums. For more, visit www.carmentoth.com) and we had a small window of opportunity for Re/Max Hot Air Ballon rides before the rain came. This year we were also joined by Mountain Equipment Co-Op who provided free bicycle tune-ups and Starbucks Coffee who provided free coffee and iced teas to all participants.

Also new this year was a silent auction with proceeds going to the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre. Auction items included a Raleigh Mountain Bike, Flip Video Ultra Camera and Typhoon Electric Guitar. Thank you to our sponsors Raleigh Canada, Flip Video and Tuneology for the auction items and to all our auction winners.

A special thanks to Derek Lee, MP, Scarborugh-Rouge River, for coming out and sending our participants off and to all the hard working volunteers who helped not only on the day of the event but also leading up to the event.

Below are some photos from this year’s event. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
